Editorial : From Library Journal
Film noir flourished in the years during and immediately following World War II, but the genre has never disappeared, as shown by the recent popularity of films like Basic Instinct, Bound, and LA Confidential. These academic essays, compiled by Kaplan (English, SUNY), ponder the "absent family" in noir, the role of woman as destroyer and redeemer, the common theme of female duplicity, and the role of women in the narrative structure. Other films considered here are Blue Gardenia, Gilda, Double Indemnity, modern noir films like Klute, and the horror classic The Haunting, which one critic sees as a representation of the "disruptive force of lesbian desire." Though few studies of women in this popular genre exist, the book's academic format and language will discourage most general readers. I ordered this book after listening to the True Murder podcast hosted by Dan Zupansky. The good guys can win this time.. Get it? The Sorceress finds out about the Prince when Rapunzel's dress gets a little too tight because she is pregnant.

Now, personally, you might choose to read that part of the story as "Oh, Sorceress, how come when you climb up, you feel so HEAVY, but when my Prince climbs up, he's not heavy at all?". If that seems to be a simple technique, trust me, it actually requires a very skilled interviewer to pose the kind of questions which elicit coherent answers. They are swift in incident and event. I learned so much about animal transport and handling from expert scientists from around the world. Joyce's fate. Every once in a great while I stumble upon a book I've never heard of and feel as though I've discovered treasure. As far as I can see, the definitions (some of which are wrong, circular and many are badly typeset) do nothing to elucidate the material
