"Even Little Sparrows" is a semi-autobiographical novel set in a fictitious English Midlands town around the mid-1970’s.

Robert Adams has passed his final examinations and is posted to the Wappingdon and District RSPCA Branch, his first ‘station’ as a fully-fledged Inspector of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Britain’s largest and most respected animal welfare charity.

Wappingdon is a sprawling, densely-populated industrial town in slow decline following a heyday of steel production in the early twentieth century.

The local RSPCA Branch operates a busy animal hospital and kennels complex, and the Inspector’s workload is high. Bob would have preferred a more rural setting for his first ‘station’, but he is determined to make the best of his situation and sets to work with a will, despite an obvious inexperience of the job.

Editorial : From the Author
Back in 1974, when I first applied to join the Inspectorate of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, I had little idea of what such work entailed. Like most of my native Britain, I recognized the RSPCA as a great institution but knew virtually nothing of its inner workings, or how the day-by-day routine of animal welfare was conducted. Good. If you didn't know anything about this subject before reading the book your sure to know everything there is to know post reading. Mealtime at Bella Vista was filled with descriptive images of food and I could almost smell the breakfast muffins and taste pasta sauce for dinner. I do hope this is not Ms. In particular, Chapter 4 is difficult going, but might be skipped or skimmed on first reading.
Given the mathematical level and rigor, this is a remarkably clear book. Now to the 'book' - I think it's a stretch to even call it a book - itself. He knows the history of the Greek occupation, the atrocities committed by Antiochus Epiphanes, and the Maccabean revolt. Once she arrived she discovered there were more than a few old family secrets and that Bella Vista was on the verge of foreclosure.

I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did, but within a few chapters I was immersed in the beautiful setting, rich with detail and vivid descriptions. The book te
